Better Services for Less Money: A Reality in Bothell

As Tax Day approaches, many will be thinking about where their hard-earned tax dollars go. Income tax goes toward Federal programs, property and sales taxes go toward State programs, and on down the line to the local level. With so many different taxes going to so many services, you might be wondering what you are getting for your money. If you want an example of a lot of bang for your buck, look no further than your city taxes. As the City Manager, I’m biased, of course. So don’t just take my word for it. Consider the following:

1. As a homeowner, less than 20% of your property tax bill goes to the City.

2. Bothell has one of the lowest property tax levy rates in the State. Among 281 Washington cities, over 230 cities have higher tax rates than Bothell’s.

3. For the taxes you pay to the City, you get: police services, fire services, clean water, maintained streets, maintained parks and other public facilities, and recreation activities, just to name a few.

4. The tax dollars you pay to the City stay in the community. You also have a responsive and approachable City Council to ensure that the City is going in the direction that the community wants. Read more...
